Healthier Smiles for Our Littlest Patients with Pediatric Dentistry from Dr. Perez

by on May.26, 2011, under Children's Dentistry

Teaching your child to make regular dental visits a priority can lead to a lifetime of excellent oral health. That’s why our Grapevine office sees patients of all ages. Whether your child has already had a first visit or is just getting ready for one, we can give every one of our little patients the care they need to have healthier smiles.

Your Child’s First Visit

While we recommend bringing your child in for a first visit at three years old, it can also help if your young one’s first time in our office is actually during one of your regular checkups. This lets him or her become acquainted with the sights and sounds of our office.

But whether your son or daughter is just accompanying you or is in for a first checkup, all visits to us begin with a thorough oral exam. This lets us check for signs of cavities, gum disease, and tooth decay. In the case of your child, we can also keep an eye on tooth development.

Sometimes, Dr. Perez may recommend dental sealants or fluoride supplements for your little one. Both are important for protecting young smiles from cavities. Sealants can especially help protect hard-to-clean back teeth susceptible to decay from sugars, while fluoride supplements attract minerals that support a tooth’s enamel.

But one of the most important reasons to bring your child in at a young age is so we can begin teaching them how to care for their smile. Working together, Dr. Perez and his team can teach your son or daughter the brushing habits that will benefit them their whole life.
